BATTELLE JOINS FORCES WITH MEXICAN UNIVERSITY, PETROLEUM INSTITUTE

Battelle has entered into an alliance with the National Autonomous University of Mexico and the Mexican Petroleum Institute to explore joint research projects in such areas as pipelines, refineries, and the environment.

Battelle President and CEO Doug Olesen, National Autonomous University of Mexico Rector Dr. Francisco Barnes de Castro, and Mexican Petroleum Institute Director General Dr. Gustavo Chapela Castañares today signed the agreement creating the alliance in a ceremony in Mexico City.

Offices for the new alliance will be established in Mexico City.

The alliance will seek to create and commercialize intellectual property in the fields of mutual interest. Pipeline work will focus on operations and maintenance standards. Refinery work will focus on improving refining processes. Environmental research will concentrate on the areas of water and air quality.

“We want to pull together the strengths of the three organizations where we have similar values,” said Richard J. Chidester, relationship manager for Battelle. “We’re going to put our collective intellectual power together, identify problems, and figure out how to solve them.”
