RICH ADAMS NAMED BATTELLE SENIOR VP AND CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER

Rich Adams has been named Battelle’s Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, a position that takes a leading role in building the technology organization’s intellectual property portfolio.

Adams also will head Battelle’s new Core Technology Development organization, which includes staff in such areas as polymers, biotechnology, and cognitive controls. Adams will oversee staff at Battelle’s headquarters in Columbus, and at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland, Wash., operated by Battelle for the U.S. Department of Energy.

“Rich has a strong technological background and the ability to manage and nurture technology,” said Doug Olesen, Battelle President and CEO. “He’s going to be a catalyst to help our various groups build intellectual property positions as well as share those across the entire organization. He’ll also help develop collaborative relationships with external technology sources to bring important new technologies into Battelle.”

Adams said he wants to establish a culture of innovation within the Core Technology Development organizations. “I want innovation and creativity to be the primary driver in how we evaluate our performance,” Adams said.

Battelle is investing about $4 million in core technologies this year. “That’s a significant investment in Battelle’s long-term future,” Olesen said. “The continued success of our core technology mission is absolutely essential to the future of our organization.”

Adams is working with management and research staff to identify key technologies for Battelle investment.

Adams has worked for Battelle for 21 years. He previously served as Manager, Technology Planning and Analysis Center and Human Resources Director.

Adams earned a bachelor’s degree in economics at Millersville State University, a master’s in economics at Washington State University, and a doctorate in science and technology policy from George Mason University.

Battelle serves industry and government by developing, commercializing, and managing technology. With a wide range of scientific and technical capabilities, Battelle puts technology to work for clients in 30 countries.
