Walter is chairman and chief executive officer of Dublin, Ohio-based Cardinal Health, Inc. He founded the company as a food wholesaler in 1971, and has steered its evolution into a leading provider of services supporting health care.

Walter holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Ohio University and a master's degree in business from Harvard Business School. He serves on the boards of directors of Bank One Corporation, CBS Corporation, and Infinity Broadcasting Corporation. Walter resides in Dublin, Ohio.
