OUR APPROACH

 

Battelle’s demilitarization process experience focuses on using the organization’s chemical process, mechanical process, environmental, industrial hygiene, safety, and analytical technology capabilities in an integrated offering to provide effective solutions to demilitarization of both conventional and chemical weapons. The development, selection, and adaptation of processes to the disposal of conventional and chemical weapons have been areas at which Battelle has provided experience for over 30 years. 

 

Battelle has provided the following general services for demilitarization processes:

  • Process evaluation in the laboratory
  • Development of analytical methods
  • Identification and testing of Technical Risk Reduction areas
  • Pilot confirmation testing
  • Assistance in design of the full-scale process
  • Permit design and preparation of permit sections such as RCRA Part B and RD&D permit applications 
  • Support to operation of the process, including process operation, environmental compliance, and process and work area emission measurements
  • Verification of permit compliance
  • Process close-out and decommissioning.
