CASE STUDIES & INNOVATIONS:

Bring us your extreme conditions—ranging from the salt water-and-grit of the ocean floor to unique operating environments encountered by special operations forces—and Battelle will build hardware that works.

OUR APPROACH

Our define-design-deliver systems engineering process begins with careful consideration of performance requirements and operational environments. Our engineers and scientists in multiple specialties then work together to develop a design that meets our client’s needs, while working closely with end users to ensure that we incorporate their unique points of view. We build prototypes effectively and efficiently with fully equipped in-house fabrication capabilities that include a computerized numerically controlled (CNC) machine shop and a facility to design and fabricate custom electronics circuit cards. Both classified and unclassified assembly areas are available. Once a prototype is built, we have the facilities to test it in almost any environment, including field operations on the hundreds of acres at our West Jefferson, Ohio, office. Battelle conducts limited-run productions or qualifies a commercial manufacturer.

Core competencies in ruggedized equipment include:

  • Multidisciplinary systems engineering featuring close association among mechanical, electrical, electronics, materials, and chemistry specialists
  • Experience and expertise with Mil-STD-810 for environmental test methods
  • Computer modeling capability including structural and thermal analyses
  • Physical modeling capability including stereolithography and laminated object manufacturing, as well as more conventional modeling techniques.
  • Prototyping and fixturing capability
  • Testing: pressure, vacuum, shock, vibration, temperature, humidity
  • Fabrication: mechanical, electromechanical and electronic equipment in limited production runs
