CASE STUDIES & INNOVATIONS:

Battelle’s experienced team uses advanced sensor technologies in close collaboration with customers to deliver innovation in system development, sensor data analysis, geospatial solutions, evaluation, and modeling and simulation for government and industrial applications.

OUR APPROACH

From development to deployment, for applications as diverse as sensing CB agents on the battlefield, narcotics in the airport, or pollution in the air, Battelle works to deliver a sensor system that solves the problem—not just a sensing device that must be integrated into a solution. We develop algorithms, including deconvolution and chemometrics, to extract usable knowledge from raw sensor data and develop custom systems that use geolocated information to solve problems with a geographic component. Our evaluations of sensor systems performance may include optical analysis, electronics and software disassembly, and overall performance assessment. We perform simulation of aerodynamic systems and simulation analysis, including 3-D visualization.

Core competencies in sensors include:

  • Spectroscopy —focusing on optical spectroscopy, Battelle has unique capabilities and experience across many disciplines including in UV, visible, IR, and THz spectral regions. Our focus in is developing sensors for and performing laboratory measurements on CB agents, TICs, explosives, pharmaceuticals, narcotics, and pollutants. Complex spectral analysis and algorithm development. Spectral library development and operational support.
  • Wireless and Microwave Systems — RF and microwave surveillance, detection, concealments, situational awareness, communications, RFID, and analysis.
  • Acoustics Engineering — develop specialized acoustic systems for collection, recognition, and transmission of acoustic signals. Applications range from working with voice data to using ultrasonic detects to detect and identify material.
  • Radiographic Tomography – develop and optimize radiographic systems including imaging systems. Develop, utilize and/or modify reconstruction algorithms (i.e. computed tomographic (CT) reconstructions, for objects of interest.)
  • Electro-Optics –modeling through system development. Imaging (UV, vis, IR), LIDAR, laser range finding, sensing, laser illumination, image processing.
