Battelle recently presented the Pueblo Technical Academy with $4,000 to support its Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) educational programs. STEM schools help our nation’s youth gain the skills required to think critically, solve complex problems, and drive advancements in science and technology.

The funds will support the addition of Civil Engineering & Architecture, and Biomedical Sciences curriculum for the 2010-2011 school year.

Battelle performs all environmental activities, laboratory monitoring and analysis, resident engineering support, in addition to providing the scientific technical expertise to the Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant (PCAPP) at the Pueblo Chemical Depot.

“Supporting education is one of Battelle’s founding principles and we do this by, among other things, helping to educate our next generation of scientists and engineers in the communities where we live and work,” said T.C. Spear, Battelle test coordinator at the PCAPP.

Battelle, the world’s largest independent research and development laboratory oversees $5.6 billion in R&D, and is headquartered in Columbus, Ohio. It has 130 locations throughout the world including operations at a number of the country’s chemical weapons destruction sites. It also operates the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, Colorado, for the Department of Energy.

Battelle also is one of the nation’s leading charitable trusts focusing on societal and economic impact and actively supporting and promoting science and math education.
