Senior Human Factors Researcher
About ShaneShane Stassen has a background in user-centered product design, and he possesses more than 18 years of experience in applying human factors design principles to the development of commercial and government products.
As a member of Battelle’s Human Centric Design (HCD) group, Shane currently serves as a human factors technical lead for usability studies of medical devices. In this capacity, he provides oversight of study investigators and offers technical expertise to the development and execution of usability studies ranging from initial exploratory (formative) studies through later validation (summative) studies.
As a lead study investigator, Shane’s research responsibilities have included: generating study protocols and associated study materials, moderating participant test sessions to collect usability data, analyzing collected data to evaluate potential usability issues, and documenting study results in final report deliverables and presentations.
Shane also has experience conducting human factors assessments of developmental military systems for compliance with the guidelines of MIL-STD-1472 and associated standards, with an emphasis on anthropometry and physical ergonomics. In addition, he is skilled in 3-D modeling and animation and has produced dozens of 3-D animations ranging from molecular-level representations to large-scale architectural visualizations. These animations support various applications such as computer-based training, product design visualization, and multimedia marketing products.
