New Inflation Reduction Act Means Big Things for Climate Resilience

On Aug. 16, 2022, President Joe Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act, which includes landmark provisions to address climate and other issues that will have significant implications for America’s future.

This historic investment will catapult significant investments into clean energy, carbon reduction, and climate policy. As a part of Battelle’s commitment to science for the betterment of society, we are pleased to announce our second Innovations in Climate Resilience conference, or ICR23 (#ICR23 #Climate23), to be held in Columbus, Ohio on March 28-30, 2023. This fresh wind will blow us to the place where we can deliver science and technology with impact to preserve our planet for the health and wellbeing of people today as well as those who come after us; we need only to engage, embrace, and drive. The event will bring together world leaders from government, academia and private industry to make bold leaps and action to forge a path for resilience in the face of global climate change that affects us all. We believe that collective steps to ensure a safer planet will benefit the economy, health and well-being of Earth’s inhabitants.

The ICR23 conference will focus on five theme areas:

  • Climate Risk Analysis and National Security
  • Resilient Built Infrastructure
  • Ecosystem Restoration, Sustainability and Other Innovative Climate Solutions
  • Convergence with Health: Tools and Innovations to Prevent or Combat Climate Effects on Health
  • Net-Zero Economy: Energy Technology, Decision-Making, and Capacity Expansion

The Inflation Reduction Act stands to add about $370 billion to address climate change and bolster U.S. energy production by using incentives for private companies to produce more renewable energy and for households to transform their energy use and consumption. The clean energy investments represent the biggest suite of national climate policies ever passed by the U.S. government.

Bold leaps and action are made more robust by this bill. We are committed to fostering and harnessing America’s intellectual capital to drive climate innovation. We want to inspire leading scientists, policy makers, and entrepreneurs by making ideas come to life and anticipate broad participation and attendance in the conference. Our call for abstracts is open now.

This new bill will help clean up our existing electric transmission facilities and provide for new renewable energy sources like wind, solar, geothermal and more, scrub energy intensive industrial processes, fund carbon capture and storage, propel energy efficient commercial buildings and restore the polluted sections of our country. We want to learn about your new ideas and collectively work to spark the best ones come to launch.

Please join us and next March in Columbus so we can all work expeditiously and diligently to protect our planet from the effects of climate change. Together we can chart the path to a more resilient climate future.
