Rezoning request targeted for March Annual Town Meeting
Duxbury, Mass. (June 14, 2016)—Battelle and developer DIAMOND/SINACORI have mutually agreed to revise an existing purchase and sale agreement to extend the timeline for rezoning the 11-acre Washington Street property that formerly housed Battelle laboratories.
Residents attending a community meeting in late May hosted by DIAMOND/SINACORI, voiced support for the proposal and concern about issues including the timeline for requesting approval to allow the construction of single-family homes and high-end condominiums.
“We want to make sure everyone is comfortable with the process and agree to let the redevelopment follow the standard course for input and approvals,” said Battelle spokeswoman Katy Delaney. “We’re listening, and this underscores our commitment to work with the community, town officials and developer to redevelop the property in a way that is transparent, beneficial and respectful.”
“As has been the case with all of our other development work, we intend to behave as guests in Duxbury throughout our involvement, inclusive of inviting community and abutter input throughout the site planning, architectural design, permitting and construction process,” said Merrill Diamond. “This recent and much appreciated decision on the part of Battelle will hopefully underscore our commitment to this approach.”
