DUBLIN, OH., 6 March, 2012—Production will ramp up at Battelle as it works to fill its largest order to date for Chemical Vapor Sampling equipment used on board the Stryker Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Reconnaissance Vehicle (NBCRV) for the United States Army.
The Army awarded Battelle a contract to manufacture 140 Chemical Vapor Sampling Systems at Battelle’s Production and Field Support (PFS) facility located in Dublin, Ohio. The systems sample chemical vapor in the air at designated locations then stores it in canisters which are taken to Gold Star Laboratories for confirmatory analysis.
The order also includes the manufacture of 840 Training Sample Canisters and 20 Training Support Packages at the Battelle Eastern Science and Technology (BEST) Center facility located in Aberdeen, Maryland.
Battelle has been producing the Chemical Vapor Sampling Systems since 2008 and has manufactured approximately 240 systems to date. The current order will be produced during 2012 with initial deliveries anticipated by January, 2013 or sooner.
There are about 80 people who now work at the Dublin, Ohio facility and it is likely that some additional jobs will be added, depending on the number of additional contracts in the works, said Raj Harricharran, Manager of Production and Field Support for Battelle’s National Security Global Business.
The Dublin facility, located on Blazer Parkway, is a 65,000 square foot operation that manufactures a number of high tech, specialized instruments for clients in the defense industry, the energy arena and health and life sciences markets.
