COLUMBUS, OH. 23 March, 2009 – Battelle continues to use innovation to help the energy industry take steps to use smart technologies to explore issues affecting business opportunities, decision making and its future direction. How?

One way is to address top energy officials at the 2nd Annual European Executive Summit on March 22-24, 2009 in Maynooth, Ireland.  The theme to illustrate this trend is “The Smart Utility and Energy Company-Smart Meters, Smart Utility, Smart Buildings, Smart Grid. How Smart is Your Company?”

On the first day of the conference, Battelle’s President of Energy Technology, Don McConnell, spoke about the directions for electric power systems in carbon restrained markets. McConnell discussed the period of unprecedented change facing energy systems due to a combination of market and regulatory forces.

In order to develop a smart grid in Ireland and other places during the next 20 years, electric power supply and management must be managed. It will be driven by the combined forces of increased demand, the necessary expansion of infrastructure, and increased pressure from climate change legislation to reduce overall carbon footprint for the entire power system.
