REBS™ detects and identifies contaminants within minutes

COLUMBUS, Ohio (March 11, 2015)— In times of declining budgets, systems that improve productivity while keeping costs minimal are a crucial part of any business strategy.

Battelle’s Rapid Enumerated Bioidentification System (REBS™) is now supporting manufacturing industries as a way to ensure the manufacturing process produces microbial contamination free products. Available for usage in-line, at the batch level, or at the final product release stage, REBS helps ensure products such as pharmaceuticals, health care products, and industrial formulations are contaminant free.

REBS is a cost-effective resource to detect and identify microbial contamination in real-time without the need to send a sample to a lab for culturing. REBS’ non-destructive identification also allows for secondary confirmation, ensuring that mitigation can begin within hours.

REBS has an upgradable library to allow for the identification of new microbial contaminants as they emerge and become problematic.

“With an operating cost of less than $1 per day for continuous monitoring, REBS helps ensure critical product microbial contamination free quality without increasing labor costs,” said Battelle Research Leader Andy Bartko. “Early contaminant identification eliminates costly inventory losses, and most importantly, ensures product and consumer safety.”

Battelle will be demonstrating REBS at the upcoming Parenteral Drug Association (PDA) Annual Meeting at Booth 118 taking place March 16-18 at Red Rock Casino Resort and Spa in Las Vegas, NV.
