COLUMBUS, OH., 11 October, 2011—Don Hayford has spent his entire 34-year professional career at Battelle, developing an impressive background of leadership and expertise. Now, he has earned the title Senior Research Leader (SRL), the most esteemed position for any scientist or engineer at Battelle. Hayford works in Battelle’s National Security Global Business (NSGB).
“This is an extraordinarily prestigious strategic and technical achievement, comparable to a Fellow in academia,” said NSGB President Steve Kelly. “I’ve witnessed first-hand Don’s contribution to our emerging scientists and engineers, our business, and the way we approach innovation. We expect more great things from Don as he continues to deliver solutions for tomorrow’s most complex problems.”
The promotion highlights Hayford’s cross-discipline expertise and his commitment to mentoring others. His career comprises technical expertise in non-destructive testing, oil and gas pipeline research, conventional and underwater radiography as well as sensor development for industrial practices. After graduating from Virginia Tech in 1977, the Charleston, W.Va. native joined Battelle. Today, the resident of Clintonville, Ohio also volunteers his time as a technical mentor for students at Metro Early College High School, which teaches a science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) curriculum that is supported, in part, by Battelle.
As the world’s largest independent research and development organization, Battelle provides innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing needs through its four global businesses: Laboratory Management; National Security; Health and Life Sciences; and Energy, Environment and Material Sciences.
