Battelle to Gather Nature Data for Feds

We've seen what climate change can do: Wild temperatures. Wilder storms.

But some effects of our warming planet are slower to unfold and harder to track. For example, tree and plant species might migrate northward. Animals might follow the trees. Wildfires that seem small on a forest-by-forest basis might, when examined in connection with others across the country, show broader patterns.

These things might be linked with climate change, or they might be caused by other phenomena. Gathering data on a wide scale is one way to tell.
