Will work with Oceans and Coastal Protection Division for at least the next five years
COLUMBUS, Ohio (Sept. 2, 2014)—Battelle has won a contract with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to support its mission of protecting and restoring the nation’s ocean and coastal environments. Experts from a variety of Battelle locations and team members will support EPA’s Oceans and Coastal Protection Division (OCPD) through multiple work assignments that are issued during the next five years, with a contract ceiling of approximately $6 million.
“We’ve got the experience and staff to work on many different environmental issues,” said Mark Curran, Manager of Battelle’s Environmental Solutions and Services Business Line. “We have a long history, dating back to the early 1980s, of working with the EPA and other clients on a range of ocean and coastal topics. We can’t wait to get to work.”
The work will require professional technical support on topics that include, among other things, the National Estuary Program, ocean disposal, smart growth, marine debris, coral reefs, and the impacts of climate change on coastal resources. The OCPD and its partners in the EPA Regions address issues along all of the nation’s coasts.
Battelle’s ocean and coastal scientists and engineers bring the experience gained from more than 20 years of support to OCPD and more than 40 years of work in the ocean and coastal environment. The focus on marine environment includes contributions to research and strategic planning in priority watersheds across the United States. Battelle’s innovations have led to advances in the areas of climate change adaptation, autonomous underwater vehicles, environmental DNA, and ocean energy.
Every day, the people of Battelle apply science and technology to solving what matters most.
