COLUMBUS, Ohio (March 3, 2014)—Battelle is petitioning the Federal Communications Commission to adopt new rules allowing the deployment of advanced wireless technology that support the cost-effective delivery of data streams at 10 Gigabit and greater, effectively combining the speed and capacity of fiber optic cable with the low-cost and flexibility of traditional wireless technology. The FCC has now asked the public for comments on Battelle’s petition.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (Feb. 3, 2014)—In a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) building on the outskirts of Atlanta, Georgia, large metal vats are arranged in the middle of a room like a set from a sci-fi movie. Inside each one, 40,000 vials are filled with an array of specimens such as blood, urine, tissue and DNA, many of them unique in the world, invaluable, and irreplaceable. They are frozen (some at nearly -200 degrees Celsius), so cold it ceases all biological processes so sample integrity is maintained for years without degradation.

COLUMBUS, Ohio—(Dec. 9, 2013) Global research and development (R&D) spending is forecast to grow by 3.8 percent—or $60.0 billion—to $1.6 trillion in 2014, according to the closely watched annual forecast by Battelle and R&D Magazine. After a flat year of R&D spending in 2013, the U.S. is projected to show modest growth while China is expected to continue its two-decade upward trajectory in R&D investment.
