Columbus, OH. 10, Oct., 2013—Battelle experts have completed the installation of the first commercial quantum key distribution (QKD) protected network in the United States. Using fiber optic lines installed between the headquarters campus and a satellite office in Dublin, Ohio and hardware from ID Quantique, Battelle data containing such information as financials, intellectual property, drawings, designs, and more will be protected now and in the future.

QUINCY, Mass. and EDINBURGH, Scotland - 7 Oct. 2013— Bluefin Robotics, a leading provider of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs), announced today that it has acquired SeeByte, Ltd., a leading provider of autonomous platform software that enhances the user experience and the capabilities of underwater sensors, vehicles and systems. SeeByte, headquartered in Edinburgh, Scotland, will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bluefin. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Bluefin is owned by Battelle, a leading independent science and technology organization committed to solving some of the world's toughest challenges in national security, energy, the environment and healthcare.

Columbus, OH. 2-Oct, 2013—Battelle has been awarded a $5.2 million follow-on contract to serve as the data coordination center for a series of important studies led by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with funding from the National Institutes of Health. The information gained from the study, called Orofacial Pain: Prospective Evaluation and Risk Assessment (OPPERA), will shed light on pain treatment and the causes of temporomandibular disorders, also known as TMD.

12 June, 2013 - Washington, D.C., A new Battelle study released today by United for Medical Research illustrates the genetics and genomics industry’s impact on the United States economy has reached nearly a trillion dollars. The study is based on new data collected over the previous two years, and represents an update to the highly-cited Battelle 2011 report tracking the growth of the industry and its links to the federally funded Human Genome Project (HGP).

COLUMBUS, OH., 9 May, 2013—Battelle’s Tactical Systems business will begin transforming standard pickup trucks into Special Operations vehicles for the Department of Defense.
