Battelle's Pam Hurst Appointed to Advisory Post at University of Rhode Island

COLUMBUS, OH., 14 July, 2010—Pam Hurst, Battelle’s Senior Market Manager for Navy Undersea Systems in the National Security Global Business (NSGB), has been appointed to the advisory board for the Department of Ocean Engineering at the University of Rhode Island. Hurst is a graduate of the engineering school at URI.

Her three-year advisory board term begins July 1 and can be renewed.

At Battelle, she coordinates NSGB business development efforts across the Navy and Special Operations market sector.

Hurst has a history working with the United States Navy and other U.S. defense companies, specializing in undersea vehicles, commercial vehicles, undersea telecommunications and complex undersea hardware. Her career before Battelle includes posts at Westinghouse, Honeywell, Lockheed Martin, AT&T, Lucent and General Dynamics.

Hurst is a Life Member of the Marine Technology Society and currently is a 10-year advisory committee member for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Society’s Oceanic Engineering Society.

She is active in annual Oceans Conferences and during her career has been a session chair, author and committee member.

Her Battelle team recently awarded the URI Ocean Engineering Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) Team $6,000 and the team will compete in the AUVSI Foundation and Office of Naval Research’s 13th Annual International Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Competition at the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center in San Diego.

“I am thrilled to give back to the university and contribute to its outstanding engineering department,” Hurst said.
