DSS recognizes BEST Center for outstanding industrial security
Columbus, OH. 26, June 2013 - Battelle places a high value on security and safety while maintaining excellence in its research and development and lab management efforts. Tangible evidence of this diligence has come in the form of the prestigious Defense Security Services (DSS) James S. Cogswell Award.
The DSS, an agency of the Department of Defense that oversees and assists the defense industrial base with the protection of national security assets, has selected the Battelle Eastern Science and Technology (BEST) Center in Aberdeen, MD to receive the award for outstanding industrial security achievement.
This is the eighth time that a Battelle office has won the Cogswell Award—other years include 1978, 1986, 1990, 1997, 2006, 2007 and 2008—and it’s the second time for the BEST Center.
“The Cogswell Award is a significant achievement,” said Steve Kelly, president of Battelle’s National Security Division. “It reflects a highly effective security program which is an essential component in Battelle’s performance of mission-critical work for our country. It affirms to clients that Battelle is committed to delivering quality results—not only technically but also in safeguarding their critical information and technology.”
The Cogswell Award is presented annually to honor a select group of defense contractors for their sustained outstanding achievement in security. Nominations are highly coveted in the defense industry and must be initiated by a DSS Industrial Security representative. Only about 24 of the nation’s 13,000 eligible defense contractor facilities are selected for the award each year. The award will be presented today at the annual seminar of the National Classification Management Society (NCMS), in Chicago, IL.
