COLUMBUS, OH., 21 June, 2011—The Naval Facilities Engineering Service Center awarded Battelle a task order contract with a ceiling of $75 million to assist ongoing cleanup efforts to clean up Navy, Marine Corps and federal government facilities at various locations worldwide.

COLUMBUS, OH., 20 July, 2011— Battelle carbon sequestration experts collaborated with American Electric Power (AEP) to complete the world’s first small-scale carbon capture and storage (CCS) test at a coal-fired power plant, an important milestone in the path towards developing a commercial CCS industry needed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The collaboration that grew over the last eight years has led to many geologic, engineering, field implementation, and regulatory firsts, with regional and global impact for CCS technology development.

BOSTON, MA., 15 June, 2011– Battelle and the Collaborative Institute for Oceans, Climate and Security (CIOCS) at University of Massachusetts Boston announced today that they have teamed to host the first-ever Global Conference on Oceans, Climate and Security (GCOCS) in May, 2012.

WASHINGTON, D.C., 10 May, 2011 — The $3.8 billion the U.S. government invested in the Human Genome Project (HGP) from 1988 to 2003 helped drive $796 billion in economic impact and the generation of $244 billion in total personal income, according to a study released today by Battelle. In 2010 alone, the human genome sequencing projects and associated genomics research and industry activity directly and indirectly generated $67 billion in U.S. economic output and supported 310,000 jobs that produced $20 billion in personal income. The genomics-enabled industry also provided $3.7 billion in federal taxes during 2010.

COLUMBUS, OH., 4 May, 2011— For three years, Battelle has worked with Kent State University (KSU) on a congressionally funded fuel cell project. Kent State faculty and students assisted Battelle in developing a fuel cell power generator for military applications. The advanced power generator is more fuel efficient, quieter and produces less pollution than the existing military diesel generators it is designed to replace.

COLUMBUS, OH., 14 April, 2011 –– Battelle and Levant Power Corporation jointly announced today the two companies plan to develop and commercialize wave energy harvesting technology for ocean systems. Providing consistent, uninterrupted power to sensors, vehicles and communications systems for ocean borne-devices is an industry-wide challenge. Battelle and Levant say that challenge can be overcome by OceanGen power units which could facilitate expansive deployment of advanced and innovative ocean-borne devices.
