COLUMBUS, OH. 19 February, 2009 - Battelle recently was selected to operate the Materials Management and Remediation (MMR) Center through August 2011 in an effort to accelerate the use of innovative technologies to improve environmental protection.

DE. 17 February, 2009– The U.S. fruit, vegetable and mass-market floral industry contributes $554 billion annually to the nation’s economy, impacting every state and every congressional district in the country, according to a new study from Battelle. The first-of-its-kind economic impact study of the industry – titled Economic Reach and Impact of the Fresh Produce and Floral Industry, commissioned by Produce Marketing Association (PMA) – used unprecedented economic modeling to analyze and measure the industry’s field-to-fork reach.

COLUMBUS, OH. 20 January, 2009—Kelly Ward of Battelle has been appointed by Dr. Elaine Edgar, Executive Director of the Ohio Partnership for Excellence (OPE), to the 2009 Board of Examiners for the Ohio Award for Excellence. The Award is modeled after the Baldrige National Quality Award and is the highest level of recognition for performance excellence that an Ohio organization can receive.

Columbus, OH. 14 January, 2009—Battelle, the world’s largest nonprofit research and development organization, announced today it is investing more than $200 million in central Ohio to add, construct, and renovate manufacturing, office, child care, and laboratory facilities in Columbus, Dublin, and West Jefferson. As part of the investment, Battelle will create more than 200 new, high-paying science and research jobs. Overall, the total economic output in the region stemming from Battelle’s investment is estimated to total more than $450 million.

RICHLAND, WA. 13 January, 2009—Battelle will invest $1.2 million to support operations and start-up costs for a proposed new Tri-Cities public high school that will emphasize science, technology, engineering, and math, or STEM.
