Cost-Reduced Avionics Module Manufacturing: CAP

Challenge

The original unit’s design became obsolete naturally with the passage of time, but replacement systems are needed to sustain an aging fleet and keep helicopters flying.

Solution

The Caution Advisory Panel (CAP) is a dashboard display avionics module for the Black Hawk Helicopter, providing important helicopter status information to pilots. The CAP system contains custom circuit cards and fabricated mechanical parts.

Impact

Battelle manufacturing produces the reverse engineered and redesigned replacement CAP units at much lower cost than the predecessor design and technology. This happens with improved reliability and while filling varying customer orders – in all delivering thousands of tested and qualified avionics.
