Day 1: What to Expect

You can never have a second first day. We understand you want things to go perfectly on day one of your new job. And we’re here to help.

Here’s some of what you can expect on your first day at Battelle.

Orientation/check-in

We can’t expect you to start off on the right foot if we don’t provide you with the information you need. Be prepared to spend the bulk of your first morning on the job learning about Battelle and all the important things you need to do as an employee (enrolling in benefits, signing your timecard, etc.).

The length of orientation varies depending on which location you work at, so please check with your recruiter if you need specific details.

Reporting your time worked

Daily time reporting is important for every employee regardless of your role within the company. There are some very specific guidelines that must be followed for accurate reporting of time. These guidelines will be fully covered during your orientation.

Facilities and security

Not every Battelle building is the same. Once you have finished orientation, your manager should provide you with some key insight into your new location – bathrooms, copiers, breakrooms, lunch options, etc. They also be able to provide guidance on accessing your location using your badge, the best entrances/exits, where to park, etc.

Tips

Orientations/check-ins start on time. Make sure you allow plenty of time for your new commute.

Wear appropriate attire - whether you spend your time in the lab or at a desk.

Your employee badge photo will be taken on your first day, so be prepared to smile.

Don't forget to bring your valid photo ID and I-9 supporting documents.
