Biobased Lubricants
bio-based lubricant technologySynthetic pathways to produce a unique class of environmentally friendly base fluids for use as a platform technology in a variety of applications including engine oil, hydraulic fluid, transformer fluid, and bar and chain oil. Lubricants demonstrate good low temperature fluidity, thermal characteristics and oxidative stability. battelle's encapsulation technologyBy altering the characteristics of the polymer protective bead, Battelle’s scientists can design an encapsulation technology tailored to specific ingredients and release requirements. Enzymes for Remediation 
remediation with encapsulated enzymesBattelle has a patented process for the use of encapsulated enzymes to remediate recalcitrant pollutants. This enzymatic-based treatment technology has been demonstrated to rapidly decrease (TPH), (PAH) and (PCB) concentrations after application. battelle ls10 liquid bottle scannerA liquid scanner that distinguishes contaminants in liquids, aerosols, and gels (LAGs) from benign substances. Unlike other liquid scanners that rely on and are limited by single technology analysis, the LS10 scanner employs dual sensing modalities of a radio frequency technology transmitting a low-power RF pulse and an ultrasonic subsystem that generates a short ultrasonic pulse. battelle's sematrix technologyThis program that supports automation of the reviewing tasks of document collection, filtering, comparison and—to some extent—synthesis of the knowledge contained in an entire corpus of documents. Sematrix technology is a sequence of linked processes that adds value to unstructured scientific or technical information usually found in published literature. Energy Technologies

Conformal Battery
battelle conformal battery technologyBattelle’s conformal battery has translated that possibility into reality. Our battery approach allows for the battery to be integrated into the structural components of the final product. By eliminating the mass and volume associated with the outer battery packaging, our design allows the end product to be lighter. Also significant, removing the outer battery packaging and using an advanced separator allows Battelle’s battery to have a thinner profile and be shaped in many different geometries. Because of its design, the conformal battery can be integrated into product housing without impacting overall rigidity and strength. Learn more.

Battery Separator
battelle battery separator technologySensor that can detect the onset of faults at a local level in manufactured batteries during charging and use. Technology uses the battery separator (std component in batteries) as an optical waveguide. Light is inserted into one side of the separator and the transmission of light on the other side of the separator is monitored. If a dendrite begins to grow it changes the transmission of light through the separator and provides a localized indicator of impending battery failure. Learn more.

hyperelastic materialsHyperelastic materials do not have a linear stress-strain relationship and are used to handle situations where one must absorb or redirect impact energy.  Battelle has created new hyperelastic materials for energy absorption through novel formulation of existing commercially available monomers or oligomers. Acid Digestion Process
battelle's acid digestion process is a leach process to remove materials from solid streamsBattelle’s Acid Digestion Process (ADP) is a recycling leach process used to remove or recover metals from solid streams. Within ADP, the acid is recycled in a closed-loop process to reduce costs and minimize waste and environmental impacts. Originally developed for the destruction of unexploded ordnance, it can be adapted to difficult separation and recovery applications in the mining, chemical and recycling industries and more. Cerium Sulfone Additive
battelle cerium-based corrosion inhibition additiveBattelle’s Cerium-based Corrosion Inhibition Additive provides a functional, ready-to-deploy, addition to coating platforms that has been proven to improve the resistance to corrosion over non-additive topcoats. The technology takes advantage of the sulfone appended cerium redox (CeIII to Ce IV) and the inherent oxidation-reduction capability of the mixed oxide, CeO2/Ce2O3, that forms. Similar to the mechanism at work with chromate corrosion protection, the ceria mixed oxide redox vacillation provides a renewable source of electrons to a corroding metal surface thus passivating the anodic dissolution of the substrate material.
