Editorial: Ohio and Battelle Show how To Lead
Columbus, Ohio (March 31, 2020)—A state and nation that sorely needed some good news got a wonderful dose late Sunday with word that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration had authorized Battelle to maximize use of its newly developed technology to sterilize protective face masks worn by people treating COVID-19 victims. That will allow the masks to be reused multiple times — a godsend at a time when they are in short supply and governors are scrambling to acquire more for their states.
While a global public-health crisis isn’t a time for boasting, Ohioans can take pride on two fronts — Columbus-based Battelle’s research labs providing solutions to the world’s most urgent challenge and Gov. Mike DeWine getting results through deft leadership.
