Welcome to the next chapter of Battelle’s longstanding Bioremediation Symposium!

The scope of bioremediation work has expanded beyond cleanup alone and increasingly intersects with land reuse and optimization and resource and mineral recovery from waste streams.
Environmental professionals are increasingly challenged to not only restore impacted land and water resources, but also unlock broader environmental, economic, and societal value from these efforts. As a result, the conference will highlight innovative approaches that integrate biological treatment technologies with strategies for beneficial land reuse, ecosystem restoration, mineral and resource recovery, circular economy principles, and the sustainable management of complex waste streams.
Bioremediation will remain the cornerstone of the technical program and a defining element of the conference identity. Attendees can continue to expect the high quality scientific and applied content that has made Battelle’s Bioremediation Symposium a premier event for more than three decades. Building upon that foundation, BLOOM will also explore how remediation projects can support long-term land optimization objectives, create new opportunities through resource and mineral management, and help transform environmental liabilities into valuable assets.

The 2025 Bioremediation Symposium was conducted June 23-26, 2025, in Boston, Massachusetts.
The technical program consisted of more than 400 platform and poster presentations in 45 breakout sessions, as well as five panel discussions. Three short courses were conducted, and exhibits were provided by 49 companies engaged in remediation related activities. It was attended by more than 625 scientists, engineers, regulators, and other environmental professionals representing universities, government site management and regulatory agencies, and R&D and manufacturing firms from 19 countries around the world.
