Battelle Funds More than 100 Ohio STEM Classroom Grants
The Ohio STEM Learning Network (OSLN) will reach 51,000 Ohio students this year with awards, funded by Battelle, to 151 Ohio classrooms. The grants will create sustainable, STEM learning projects in public and private K-12 schools across 55 Ohio counties. -

U.S. Department of State Selects Battelle to Build Armored Ford Expeditions
Battelle’s Logistics, Operations & Ground Systems business line, in collaboration with Ford Motor Company was awarded a Large Sport Utility Vehicle (LSUV) design contract from the U.S. Department of State (DoS), on behalf of the Diplomatic Security Service (DSS), to develop a purpose-built armored vehicle design by modifying existing commercial items and deliver four prototype armored Ford Expedition vehicles with distinct requirements for protection missions. -

Battelle, National Laboratories Convene Nation’s Experts to Accelerate Solutions at Conference on Innovations in Climate Resilience
The Conference on Innovations in Climate Resilience, presented by Battelle in collaboration with the Department of Energy’s (DOE) national laboratories, will host the nation’s leading minds in climate change and resilience in Columbus, Ohio, March 29-30. The first-ever event is a curated technical program that focuses on solutions and will include invited keynote presentations, platform and lightning talks and a poster reception.

Battelle Developing Predictive Technology for Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA) to Help Identify Epidemic Security Threats
National security interests are simultaneously threatened and enhanced by the rapid pace of technology transformation, such as in the realm of emerging or re-emerging diseases. For instance, new peer-reviewed research publications in PubMed, a repository of abstracts in biomedical literature, has grown from under 500,000 annually in 1999 to just over 1.2 million annually in 2019. Analysts have a monumental task to monitor the increasingly large and complex landscape of scientific communication to identify and respond to emerging threats and opportunities. Failure to do so could lead to critical national security gaps, as pandemics have the potential to weaken societies, political systems, and economies simultaneously. -

Battelle, The Ohio State University and Northwestern University Collaborate to Tackle COVID-19 Infodemic in Real Time
Damage from the COVID-19 pandemic has been amplified by the accompanying “infodemic” of false and misleading online information. To date, most efforts to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 misinformation have been largely unsuccessful as they retroactively attempt to correct false narratives only after they have extensively spread online. A new collaborative effort between Battelle, the Ohio State University, and Northwestern University, sponsored by a $1 million grant from the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA), aims to address this problem by assessing the risk of COVID-19 misinformation in near real time. -

Battelle’s Multiple Assays Play a Critical Role in Assessing COVID-19 Vaccine Candidates
Battelle recently has developed a microneutralization assay, which uses live SARS-CoV-2 virus to analyze the neutralizing response against the virus in human serum samples. The assay is particularly useful for testing samples from vaccine clinical trials.
