Battelle has been awarded an extension to the cooperative agreement allowing it to continue operating the National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON) for the National Science Foundation (NSF) through the beginning of fiscal year 2022.

A unique educational program led by the National Science Foundation’s National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON) is helping students home in on a specific scientific field by exposing them to a broad array of experiences in the environmental and ecological sciences.

Dedrone, the market leader in counter-small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) technology, today announced the purchase of DroneDefender from Battelle. This purchase includes all assets and intellectual property associated with DroneDefender. With this acquisition, Dedrone has launched a new consultancy, Dedrone Defense, specializing in services and solutions for U.S. federal agencies, including the Department of Defense, and providing a proven, end-to-end solution that detects and classifies airspace activity, protects assets from drone threats, and defeats adversary drones.

It’s flu season, and Battelle has won a two-year contract to continue supporting the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) research on vaccines for influenza strains. The contract, known as Innovation and Expansion of Influenza Candidate Vaccine Virus Development, will help CDC add to its vaccine seed stockpile for any novel flu virus that has potential to become widespread. The goal is to produce candidate vaccine viruses that meet the rigorous quality requirements for use by vaccine manufacturers to produce influenza vaccines.

Failure to do so could lead to critical national security gaps, as pandemics have the potential to weaken societies, political systems, and economies simultaneously.

Battelle and The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center have jointly developed a new rapid, sensitive diagnostic test for COVID-19.
