U.S. Sen. Rob Portman stopped by the Battelle Advanced Manufacturing vehicle plant on the west side on Thursday as part of a five-day national defense tour across Ohio.
"We're in the fourth day of a 1,400 mile tour around the state, going to a dozen different installations that are either Army bases, Air Force bases or in this case, a contractor working with the United States government," Portman said.
The Battelle plant converts pickup trucks and other vehicles into 360-degree armored transports for military and government clients. It started operations in 2008 and covers 53,000 square feet.
"Battelle is exceptional," Portman said. "They are viewed as the highest quality at whatever they do."
