COLUMBUS, Ohio (Jan. 15, 2015)— Two national nonprofits are looking to Battelle Education for leadership in bringing a new teaching method to schools in Columbus and the surrounding region.
Next Generation Learning Challenges and Education Cities backed Battelle Education's bid to join the Emerging Harbormaster Network, providing new support for efforts to bring personalized learning to Central Ohio schools.
Personalized learning is an educational approach where classroom teachers are provided with the training, technology and support to monitor student progress in individual detail and deliver customized instruction to every child.
Battelle Education, a venture of Battelle, was awarded membership in the Emerging Harbormaster Network thanks to its extensive record of accomplishment in organizing new innovative schools. In Central Ohio alone, the Battelle Education team plays a central role in the ongoing impact of top schools including Metro Early College.
Membership in the Emerging Harbormaster Network will provide six months of expert consultations leading to the development of a citywide strategy to deliver tools to local educators for bringing personalized learning into every classroom.
"As a harbormaster organization for Central Ohio, we gain a powerful opportunity to think regionally about bringing local students better educational options while working side-by-side with some of the county's leading education groups," said Aimee Kennedy, Vice-President for Education, STEM Learning and Philanthropy at Battelle and the leader of Battelle Education.
Other members of the Emerging Harbormaster Network are:
- Center for Collaborative Education (Boston)
- Choose to Succeed (San Antonio)
- Excellent Schools Detroit
- The Marshall L. and Perrine D. McCune Charitable Foundation (Santa Fe)
- The Mind Trust (Indianapolis)
- New Schools for Baton Rouge
- Project Renaissance (Nashville)
- Rhode Island Mayoral Academies
- Schools That Can Milwaukee
