LEXINGTON, MA., 6 June, 2010 – The Climate Registry recently recognized Battelle for its capabilities and experience in climate change consultation by adding it to The Climate Pages (TCP), a publicly posted list of pre-screened and qualified climate consultation firms and verification bodies. TCP provides companies with independent validation of its members’ capabilities, and gives easy access to their services. Battelle is one of only three organizations approved in all four climate change consultation categories: Regulations and Markets, Green House Gas (GHG) Inventories, Technology and Equipment, and Industry Experience.

COLUMBUS, OH., 26 May, 2010 – The Ohio STEM Committee, chaired by Chancellor Eric D. Fingerhut of the Ohio Board of Regents, announced May 17 the winners of funding awards under the STEM Initiatives program. The awards are intended to fund public/private collaborations to strengthen Ohio's competitiveness in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), and STEM education fields. The state’s FY 2010/2011 budget set aside $10 million in funding, with $5 million directed toward each fiscal year.

COLUMBUS, OH., 13 May, 2010 – Battelle and RCM Solutions of Bowie, MD, have teamed under a $2.1-million task order to conduct information sharing exercises for leaders and officials across some of the 18 key industry and economic sectors. The exercises are part of the United States Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) continued commitment to increase preparedness across key stakeholders and partners, and will help protect the nation’s critical infrastructure in the event of a terrorist attack or natural disaster.

CHICAGO, IL., 3 May, 2010 –The U.S. bioscience industry continued to score employment gains through 2008 – the first year of the recent economic downturn, according to a study released today by Battelle and the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO). The Battelle/BIO State Bioscience Initiatives 2010 contains the most recent data available and shows that publicly traded bioscience-related companies on the whole generated positive net growth through 2009.

COLUMBUS, OH., 18 January, 2010—Battelle Senior Program Director Satya Chauhan has been awarded Distinguished Alumnus status in the category of Professional Excellence from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. The top-ranked school in India is where Chauhan earned his Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering. He also holds a Master’s of Business Administration degree from The Ohio State University and a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Case Western Reserve University.

COLUMBUS, OH., 11 January, 2010 - Barbara Kunz, Battelle’s President of the Health and Life Sciences Global Business, was named as one of nine public members to The Ohio State University’s James Cancer Hospital Board Jan. 7. The board also has six ex-officio members as established by OSU’s Board of Trustees for the oversight of strategic initiatives, patient care services, and financial performance of the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute.

COLUMBUS, OH., 6 January, 2010 - Battelle’s energy technology commercial solutions business announced today that it is working with 14 of the nation’s leading electric utilities and power systems suppliers to demonstrate the increased efficiency and reliability of electric power distribution through the application of intelligent systems to the power grid.

COLUMBUS, OH., 2 December, 2009—Battelle Vice President of Energy Infrastructure Mani Vadari has been elected to the board of directors of the GridWise Alliance for a two-year term.

What: Battelle is a co-leader in two major initiatives aimed at addressing global climate change through electric grid technology. One is with American Electric Power on a 110,000-home project in Columbus, Ohio, and the other is in the Pacific Northwest in a demonstration which combines energy providers, utilities, vendors, and research organizations. In total, 16 regional smart grid demonstration awards were announced by DOE today.
