Director of Warfighter Readiness and ResilienceAlison Messick serves as the Director of Warfighter Readiness and Resilience, leading enterprise-wide initiatives that strengthen the readiness and resilience of U.S. Special Operations Forces and other military teams. A former U.S. Marine and nationally recognized leader in military health and family systems, Alison brings more than 25 years of experience in advancing human performance, behavioral health, and family engagement. Her work drives innovation and integration across large-scale programs to ensure service members and their families remain mission-ready, resilient, and supported. -
Tal Sullivan
Senior Program Director, Human Performance and OptimizationTal brings over 30 years of leadership spanning military operations, program management, and strategic consulting. Most recently, he oversaw strategic initiatives and led efforts to support the Army’s Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F) program. A retired U.S. Army Special Forces (Green Beret) Colonel, Tal held command and senior staff roles from tactical to strategic in Special Operations, including Joint Operations Group Commander at SOCCENT and Director of Operations (Sensitive Activities) at USSOCOM, and served as a senior military advisor within a national intelligence organization. -

With over 20 years of experience, she has worked extensively with public health and emergency management specialists at all levels of government and the military. Amy's commitment to public health and safety is further underscored by her robust educational background, holding multiple degrees including a Doctor of Science in Environmental Science and Engineering.

Carl Blaesing
Principal Research ScientistCarl Blaesing is a Principal Research Scientist at Battelle, bringing decades of experience in occupational health and safety, environmental health, emergency preparedness, and disaster response. Starting his career as an enlisted US Navy hospital corpsman, he rapidly climbed the ranks and earned a commission as an Environmental Health Officer. Carl applies his academic credentials, including a Master of Public Health in Environmental Health and a Master of Science in Emergency and Disaster Management, to large-scale health initiatives at Battelle.

Justin Sanchez, Ph.D.
Battelle Technical FellowSanchez leads scientific advancement across our broad portfolio of life science offerings in medical devices, pharmaceutical research, biosecurity, and public health. So far, he has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers, authored two books on the design of neurotechnology, and holds seven patents.

Biomedical EngineerColachis focuses on developing assistive technologies that improve the quality of life for individuals with physical or cognitive challenges. He is a key member of the Battelle NeuroLife® program and played a major role in the development and clinical execution of a neural bypass technology that restores conscious control of the fingers and hands to individuals with spinal cord injuries.

Gabe Meister
Research LeaderGabe Meister is a Sr. Scientist with 20 years of experience working in the discovery and preclinical phases of vaccine and drug development. Dr. Meister has led multiple programs at Battelle that have resulted in FDA approval of novel therapeutics for the treatment of rare and life-threatening diseases. Most recently Dr. Meister leads a diverse group of scientists and engineers in developing novel drug delivery technologies.

Drew Cawthon
Business Line Director, Life Sciences ResearchDrew manages just over 300 staff engaged in pre-clinical and clinical research for both government and commercial clients. Drew’s team provides integrated scientific and technological capabilities in high hazard and biocontainment toxicology, assay development and validation services, and toxicology and pharmacology for support for investigational new drug studies. Drew and the members of his team also support clinical research through the Battelle Public Health Research Center in Baltimore, Maryland and provide onsite scientific support for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, GA.

She leads a team of domestic and international health researchers, scientists and practitioners with expertise in diverse aspects of health science, including healthcare quality measurement, environmental health, genomics, gerontology, behavioral science, preparedness, and military health. Nicole and the members of her team enable discovery to decision support through applied science.
